If you are anything like me, and you have small children, you have some sort of cabinet or drawer overflowing with plastic kids’ cups.  We have baby bottles, plastic sippy cups in all sizes, plastic kid’s cups in every color, and all sorts of disposable cups with missing lids.  Don’t ask why I have baby bottles, my youngest in 2 ½ and hasn’t drank from a bottle since he was one!  I just haven’t been able to find the right cup that is right for all three of my children.  Well, I’m not quite ready to give up my collection of cups, but you may want to take a look at this cup from Silikids!

It is glass, not plastic, and has an outer removable sleeve, a “siliskin”, made of silicone.  It is BPA free, hypoallergenic, and dishwasher safe.  The outer sleeve makes it easy for little hands to grasp and protects the glass if it is dropped.   They are available in 6oz and 12oz sizes and come in a variety of colors.  The 6oz cups are available in green, lime, red, and purple and cost $25.95 for a set of four.   The cost of the 12oz four pack, available in lime and aqua, is sold for $32.95.  Shipping varies by zip code, but to give you an idea, the least expensive shipping for me to receive a four pack of 6oz glasses would be around $7.00.

I tested this cup on Tommy my two year old.  He was happy to try his new big boy cup.  Take a look at our video to see how well he managed getting his drink all by himself without dropping or spilling his drink!  The next day however, he did manage to drop it, and my five year old son Jack commented, “Don’t worry; it didn’t break because it has its emergency pad on”.  When I first looked at the cup I was a little worried that it would be difficult to remove the silicone sleeve or that water would be trapped in between the sleeve and the glass if I didn’t remove it while in the dishwasher.  So I ran it through the dishwasher with the sleeve attached to see what would happen.  There was a small amount of water between the sleeve and glass but barely noticeable.  I then removed the sleeve and put it back on according to the directions in the packaging.  It was actually very simple to take on and off.

So, this little cup has a lot to offer.  It’s back to basics glass is reusable, so it’s great for the environment.  For those who worry about the health risks associated with long term use of plastic, you’ll love the BPA free silicone sleeve.  It’s easy to use, and kids love it!
